Why Christian Art Prints?
Growing up in the church in the American South, I was surrounded by Eurocentric Christian artwork. As I grew in my faith and developed my own identity as an artist, I felt there was enough of this kind of art. I came to believe that these homogeneous images contribute to a flattened understanding of Jesus, and a narrow view of the Divine. I began to grapple with the complexity of my faith, while creating more expansive and inclusive devotional art- the kind that inspires curiosity and an eagerness to dig deeper. My hope is to create progressive Christian art that accompanies spiritual wanderers and helps free Divine imagination.

I believe it is important to see the Divine image in everyone. Engaging with more expansive Christian art is one way to practice seeing the world differently, perhaps in a way that is more in line with God's vision.
My Process
I approach my creative process as a spiritual practice. I start with a biblical text, much like I would in writing a sermon or an exegesis paper. As I read, my imagination is flooded with images, questions, and avenues for exploration. I then work through possibilities with my art supplies in hand. My work holds layers of meaning through carefully considered references, composition, and symbology.
As a companion to most of my biblical artwork, I write an artist statement that can read like a sermon, an exegesis paper, or a journal entry about my art making experience. I began writing about my work while creating resources with my colleagues at A Sanctified Art.
My hope is that my artwork is vulnerable and authentic. I want you to see my wrestling with the biblical text in each brush stroke, color choice, and pattern.
